0For 15 years I played softball year round which allowed me to always stay in shape. I never had to go to a gym or eat healthy because I always worked it off on the ball field. Once my softball career ended and I started my college journey, I no longer exercised and I began to put on that “freshman 15” everybody warned me about. Four years of little sleep and excessive amounts of junk food led me to gaining 50 pounds. I was oblivious to how unhealthy I had become until I could no longer recognize myself in photos and I was unable to go up a flight of stairs without becoming short of breath. I’m an introvert with severe social anxiety so joining a regular gym was not going to be beneficial and would just cause more harm. On March 17, 2015 I was fed up with myself, so I made an impulse decision to drive to Crossfit Chelsea and give it a try. When I arrived, I was greeted by a few women that were there watching their children workout with the SWARM class. I was so overwhelmed by the amount of people and other activities around me that I did not know if I was going to be able to handle it mentally, but that was not the case. My first workout was difficult, but everyone cheered me on and encouraged me until I finished. I saw that CFC was a family, one of which I wanted to be a part. 0

When I first started I was unable to get parallel on my squats, even with just 35 lbs, I could not do a push up, run 400 meters or get through stretching without wanting to pass out! Now, three months later, I feel fantastic. I have lost a total of 25lbs and my strength has measurably doubled. Today, July 6, 2015, I back squatted 110 lbs and cleaned 90lbs. Tonight I failed at cleaning 95lbs but coach Jarrod came over and said “We will work on getting better with technique and in three weeks you will have this weight.” That exemplified what CFC is about, always getting better and pushing your limits.

I finally feel comfortable with myself because I’m healthy both mentally and physically; I could not have made it this far without the coaching and support at CFC and in September I will be competing in my first team competition!

CFC is a place for everybody. I am currently a full time nursing student in an accelerated school program and I still managed to meet my goals in as little as three months. If I can do it, you can do it too!
